Bolt builds websites and apps from chat, with hosting and a built-in database on every plan, including the free one1. For a Base44 team, it is a like-for-like builder with a different billing unit and code that syncs to GitHub.

Best for: Fast prototypes and front-end-heavy web apps where a working, hosted first version matters more than how the data is kept long term.

Not the right fit for: Apps that will hold a company’s operating records for years, or teams that need SSO and audit logs below Enterprise.

What Bolt offers teams leaving Base44

Bolt commits each working change to a connected GitHub repository and checks GitHub every 30 seconds for edits made outside Bolt, pulling them in2. Usage is billed in tokens, spent whenever Bolt reads prompts and project files, plans or writes code; the free plan includes 1M tokens a month with a 300K daily limit, and Pro starts at 10M tokens with unused tokens rolling over1.

The database is the part to examine before moving business records. Bolt Database is the default; Pro and Teams users can choose Supabase when they start a new project, but there is currently no supported way to migrate an existing Bolt database to Supabase. Rows can be filtered, queried and exported from its tables, and Bolt may pause the database of a project that is not yet published after six or more quiet days3.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • A free plan with 1M tokens a month and hosting, the most generous free starting point among the hosted builders here.
  • Bolt commits each working change to GitHub and pulls in edits made outside Bolt.
  • Unused tokens on paid plans roll over for up to two months.

Limits

  • A project that starts on Bolt Database cannot currently be moved to Supabase.
  • Bolt may pause the database of an unpublished project after six days or more of light use.
  • SSO, audit logs and compliance support are Enterprise features.
  • The bolt.diy fork receives fixes and dependency updates, with no new features planned.

Choose another option if: The app is becoming the system the company runs on. Softr, Glide or OpenLazarus are built for that lifespan.

Pricing

Published: the free plan gives 1M tokens a month; Pro costs $25 a month on monthly billing and starts at 10M tokens; Teams is $30 per member a month. Enterprise is custom.

Questions to answer before choosing Bolt

  • Should a new project start on Supabase from day one, given that Bolt Database cannot be moved there later?
  • Once the project has grown, what does an ordinary change cost in tokens?
  • Does the business need SSO or audit logs, which sit on Enterprise?
  • Who maintains the code in GitHub after launch?

The full comparison sets Bolt against the other eight builders on the same seven criteria.
