Lovable as a Base44 alternative: the same workflow, your code
A chat-to-app builder whose code lives in your GitHub from the first day. The backend is easier to leave than Base44's, though not effortless.

Lovable builds full-stack web apps from chat, much as Base44 does. The practical difference for a team leaving Base44 is where the code and the backend end up12.
Best for: Teams that want the closest equivalent to Base44’s chat-to-app workflow but with the code in their own GitHub repository from day one.
Not the right fit for: Teams with nobody to review database rules and security once the app holds customer or financial data.
What Lovable does for teams leaving Base44
Every Lovable plan can sync a project both ways with GitHub, and paid plans can download the code directly. Lovable's documentation describes exporting a project to GitHub and deploying it outside Lovable1. Its built-in backend, Lovable Cloud, provides a database, authentication, storage, realtime updates, edge functions and scheduled jobs on Supabase's foundation, hosted in the Americas, Europe or Asia Pacific2.
That foundation is the reason Lovable scores higher on ownership than Base44, which does not support self-hosting its backend3. It is not a one-step exit, though. Moving from Lovable Cloud to your own Supabase project means exporting and restoring the database, moving files and code, and reconfiguring authentication and secrets, and a project's region cannot be changed once the backend is on2.
For a Base44 migration, Lovable fits the code path: keep the React interface, replace the Base44 SDK calls with Lovable's backend and import the records from CSV, as set out in our migration guide.

Strengths and limits
Strengths
- The code leaves with you: two-way GitHub sync on every plan and a direct code download on paid plans, with documented steps for deploying elsewhere.
- The backend runs on a widely used open database stack, so a later move to a self-managed Supabase project is possible, if manual.
- Each message shows the credits it used, and unused monthly credits roll over while the subscription is active.
- Region choice (Americas, Europe or Asia Pacific) when the backend is enabled.
Limits
- Moving from the built-in backend to your own Supabase is not one step: the database, files, authentication and secrets each have to be moved.
- When the workspace runs out of credits, building stops and apps on the built-in backend pause.
- SSO starts on Business and audit logs are Enterprise-only.
- Starts from a blank app, so the data model and roles are the builder’s to design.
Choose another option if: The app is mostly records, roles and approvals rather than a custom product, or nobody on the team can own security reviews. Softr or OpenLazarus carry more of that load.
Pricing
Published: Pro $25 a month ($21 billed annually) and Business $50 a month ($42 annually), each from 100 credits, with tiers up to 10,000 credits. Enterprise on request.
Questions to ask before choosing Lovable
- Who on the team will review database access rules after each change?
- Will the app stay on Lovable Cloud, or should it start on our own Supabase project?
- Which region must the data live in, given that it cannot be changed later?
- What happens to the live app if the workspace runs out of credits?
The full comparison sets Lovable against the other eight builders on the same seven criteria.
